What is Ativan?

Ativan Pills is a brand of medicine calls Lorazepam. Introduce in the 1970s, Lorazepam is considered one of the “classic” benzodiazepines and is now sold under more than 70 different brands. It is a fast-acting benzodiazepine, which acts as an anticonvulsant, muscle relaxant, antiemetic, sedative, amnesic, and anergiosyletic.

It is commonly using to treat anxiety and panic attacks. However, it is also using to treat seizures and insomnia and is sometimes using as a sedative. Of course, there are other uses. It is also rumore that snipers have used Ativan and other benzodiazepines (i.e., diazepam) to reduce their heart rate and give them a stable purpose.

Ativan Addiction

Although not particularly common, criminals have used Ativan Pills and similar drugs as drugs to rape. Benzodiazepines are additionally one of the most widely recognize medications utilize in suicide endeavors.

Ativan is one of the most addictive benzodiazepines and is easily obtaine and often misuse. Patients can quickly develop a tolerance to Ativan, which leads them to take higher doses than prescribed. This leads to side effects, drug addiction and even known as “paradoxical effects”. Which means that the symptoms you should treat will actually worsen.

Ativan usually causes people not to react, are “dumb” and often, the person can remember very little of what happens during the drug’s effects. Although generally considered safe in relation to an overdose, Ativan dose should be using with caution with those due to muscle dysfunction and its effects of hypotension

Drug or alcohol addiction

  • Moderate to severe respiratory problems
  • Glaucoma
  • Ataxia
  • Myasthenia gravis
  • Sleep apnea
  • or women who are pregnant or nursing

However, used properly, Ativan can be very effective in treating anxiety and panic attacks. Often, panic attacks are over and the patient is left calm and relaxed in a few minutes. Ativan is usually give as a tablet, tablet or injection.

Living with Bipolar

If you are bipolar, your doctor has likely prescribed you multiple medications.  Likely, you are taking one of each of the following:

  • SSRIs (anti-depressants)
  • Anti-psychotics (“Mood Stabilizers”)
  • Anti-anxiety/Sedatives (Ativan, Lorazepam, etc.)

The primary symptom of bipolar disorder is severe “swings” between a depressive state and a manic (elated) state.  SSRIs (Selective Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitors), the so-called anti-depressants, make these manic phases more severe.  When taking them, you will likely notice that you are having more frequent panic attacks.

To counter this, you will also be given sedatives and anti-anxiety meds (such as Ativan) to reduce the manic phases.  Those very same manic phases that are being increased by the SSRIs. As a side effect, the sedatives can make your depressive states more severe.

So that’s two types of drugs that both make certain symptoms worse and, are trying to work against each other.  To say nothing of the side effects of these drugs. Then to balance it all out, anti-psychotics. Drugs like Epival (Valproic Acid) and Lithium.  These “mood stabilizers” try to counter the first two drugs downfalls, but have even worse side effects.

The outcome of taking all these pills is really anybody’s guess.  For some, the mood swings will be less severe. For many, the mood swings will be the same, or even worse than before.  In any case, the drugs will almost certainly make you “dopey” or “zombie-like” compared to your usual self. You will likely have trouble concentrating, and face a massive list of possible side-effects.

In the case of mood stabilizers, most have the potential to cause liver failure, and your doctor is supposed to have your liver tested at least twice a year. One doctor (who’s name I won’t reveal) told me that taking the standard dosage of valproic acid has roughly the same impact on your liver as drinking a case of beer every day!

Perhaps these meds aren’t all they’re cracked up to be

Now let me be perfectly clear.  I am not suggesting that bipolars simply go off their pills.  However, far too few actually do any research on the pills they are taking.  When your doctor prescribes a new medication, look it up. Compare the potential benefits with the potential side effects and decide for yourself if it’s worth the risk.  If you think it’s too dangerous, don’t be afraid to talk to your doctor about it. Doctors are human. They make mistakes and errors in judgement just like anyone else. It is up to you, the patient, to exercise some caution and consult with them if you think they made the wrong choice.

At the very least, try your absolute best to use the non-medicinal ways of coping with bipolar.  There are countless ways to combat both manic and depressive states. Using some of these, and really taking them to heart, can make a big difference.  They may not get you off the medications completely. But, there is a good chance that using some of these techniques can, at the very least, lead to lower dosages. Lower dosages mean lower odds of negative side effects and, less dopiness.

Being bipolar, does not mean you have to spend your life sedated.  You can still enjoy your life. And I hope you will.

Coping With Anxiety and Panic Attacks

Virtually everybody suffers from anxiety at one time or another.  In many people, it goes beyond anxiety into full-blown panic attacks. While Ativan side effects and other benzodiazepines can be useful in dealing with this, they do have some serious drawbacks.  So let’s look at some non-medicinal ways that we can cope with stress and anxiety. Hopefully, this will reduce or even eliminate the amount of Ativan Pills that you need.

To start, avoid consuming caffeine, excess sugar and any other substances that elevate heart rate, brain activity or wakefulness.

Consider drinking St. John’s Wort or chamomile tea.  These produce a calming affect without the “doped” sensation attributed with medications.  In young people and some adults, similar benefits can be gained by drinking warm milk.

This cannot be emphasized enough.  While it can take practice, patience, and perhaps even years, there exists inside every human being, the power to master ones own thoughts.  If you master your thoughts instead of letting them master you, you will never have more anxiety than you want to.

Panic and Anxiety

When you let fear and panic drive your thoughts, it only serves to perpetuate that fear.  When you find yourself in the grips of a panic attack, the natural fight or flight instinct kicks in.

This normally shows itself in one of two different ways. Either we try and “fight” the panic, or we try to escape it (often through crying, screaming and other outbursts).  Both of these reactions only serve to make us more consumed by our own panic and anxiety.

What we need to do, is detach ourselves from it.  Accept the job of an outsider onlooker. Instead of obsessing over the thought “I have to fight this” or “I have to get away from this”, try analyzing your anxiety.  Sit down, take a slow breath and think about the things that are happening. Like, “Hmm, my heart is beating hard.

I can feel the hairs on the back of my neck. Play scientist and make mental notes of all the effects and symptoms that are occuring.  Taking this detached, analytical approach to your own panic is a powerful way to distract yourself from the things that caused it. In so doing, you can eliminate the panic attack in a matter of minutes and may not need Drugs at all.
